After opening Little Caesars Arena with a 4-2 victory over Minnesota, the Wings haven’t won in the building since. With losses to Tampa Bay, Washington in overtime and an absolute thrashing from Vancouver, the lowly Red Wings get back to the drawing board.
Coach Blashill decided to skip Monday’s practice after their loss to their 4-1 loss to the Canucks. Opting to go with a lengthy video session, instead.
To counter their 4-4 record, Ken Holland has been busy. On Friday, Andreas Athanasiou and the Red Wings finally agreed to a 1-year deal worth $1.378 million. To create cap space, Riley Sheahan was the odd man out and traded to Pittsburgh for left wing, Scott Wilson. 2018 draft picks were also exchanged. Detroit sending a fifth rounder for a third-round pick.
Sheahan was drafted 21st overall to the Wings in 2010. He made his debut for the club, April 7, 2012 vs. Chicago Blackhawks. He struggled in the 2016-17 season, remaining scoreless until the final game at Joe Louis Arena, where he scored two goals in the 4-1 victory over New Jersey Devils. His second goal would be the final goal scored at ‘The Joe’.
The Red Wings also traded D Ryan Sproul to New York Rangers for F Matt Puempel this past week.
Detroit looks to turn things around tonight in Buffalo. Game time 7:30 PM.
