Pistons win 4th in a row on Hoops for Troops night

The Pistons celebrated Hoops for Troops tonight at Little Caesars Arena against the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks, led by Dennis Schroder and Kent Bazemore, came into tonight’s game with a win-loss record of 2-10 this season.

The Pistons got off to a good start and nursed a single digit lead for most of the first half. The game was opened up with a 25-7 Pistons run when the starters returned midway through the 2nd quarter. Detroit led by 16 at the break.

The Hawks had a strong 3rd quarter, outscoring the Pistons 28-19, to cut the lead to 7. They continued to chip away at the lead and tied it at 100 with over a minute to play. Reggie Jackson scored 8 of his 22 points in the final minute on two 3 pointers and two free throws. A Dennis Schroder turnover and clutch Avery Bradley free throws sealed the win, 111-104.

Andre Drummond had his second straight game with over 20 rebounds. He finished with 16 points, 20 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks. Reggie Jackson had 22 points and 6 assists. Avery Bradley added 20 points and 4 rebounds. Ish Smith contributed 17 points and 5 assists off the bench. The Hawks were led by Kent Bazemore’s 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Dennis Schroder had 17 points and 11 assists.

Notes: The Pistons improved to 9-3 on the season 6-1 at home. They are 4-0 on this homestand, which concludes Sunday at 4 against the Miami Heat. Andre Drummond rebounded from his 0-7 performance at the foul line to go 4-6. Stanley Johnson was out again with a hip injury. Lions players were in attendance, headlined by quarterback Matthew Stafford.
