The Red Wings avenged a 6-3 loss in Calgary, last Thursday, with an absolute thrashing of the Flames at Little Caesars Arena, Wednesday night.
Detroit’s young core of Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou and Anthony Mantha are really starting to give a glimpse into the Wings bright future. Accounting for the Red Wings 5 of 8 goals, AA and Mantha tallied 2 goals and and 1 assist, each. Larkin had 1 goal and 2 assists.
Gustav Nyquist, Justin Abdelkader and Luke Glendening also scored for Detroit bringing them to 9-8-2 in the standings. Jimmy Howard finished with 26 saves for the night.
Besides the score, the big fight will grab most of the headlines. Four players were ejected and 14 penalties were given after a fight between Brett Kulak of Calgary and Luke Witkowski of Detroit broke out.
Calgary’s Matt Tkachuk went for Luke’s legs as he was leaving for the dressing room, which initiated him to return back to the ice. Witkowski was suspended 10 games for this misconduct that states a player is not allowed to return to the ice after being tossed. A costly technicality for Detroit.
Next up for Detroit, the Buffalo Sabres, Friday night at LCA, 7:30 game time.
