It’s been a very up and down season thus far for the young Detroit Red Wings. They’ve shown promise from their young core only to turn around and give minimal effort the next night. Much can be said about their most recent home stand, going 2-of-5. Losing in overtime vs. Colorado (4-3) and getting blown out by Edmonton (6-2).
Against the Avalanche, Detroit held a 3-1 lead until Nail Yakupov scored the power play goal with 6:15 left in the 3rd period, followed by the game-tying goal by Carl Soderberg with just 46 seconds to go. 2:55 into overtime, it was Nathan MacKinnon with the game-winner for Colorado.
Justin Abdelkader, Andreas Athanasiou and Niklas Kronwall scored a goal each for Detroit.
Wednesday night against Edmonton, it was quite the opposite. Detroit couldn’t get much help behind their 2-early goals in the 1st period from Tatar and Kronwall. Jimmy Howard allowed 4 goals before being pulled. Darnell Nurse, Patrick Maroon, Jujhar Khaira, Mark Letestu, Drake Caggiula and Jesse Puljujarvi each had a goal for the Oilers.
Up next, a one-game road trip to New York versus the Rangers and they’re right back home at Little Caesars Arena against the Devils to start another 3-game home stand.
