It’s been an interesting and underwhelming Lions season to say the least. Detroit entered the much-needed Bye week, 2-3, with their wins coming against New England and Green Bay. After Week 5, if you feel like you’ve entered the ‘twilight zone’, you’re not alone.
The Lions entered Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami, Florida to a 89-degree contest against the Dolphins. Right out of the gate, Detroit was firing on all cylinders. Matthew Stafford connected with Michael Roberts for the 15-yard touchdown. Kerryon Johnson continues to impress in his rookie campaign, rushing for 71 yards to put Matt Prater within field goal range, adding 3. LeGarret Blount added with TD of his own, to put the Lions up, 17-7, at the half.
The 2nd half, provided a little deja vu, as Stafford connected with Michael Roberts, again, with the shotgun touchdown for 4 yards. Prater provided 3 more field goals, including a 50-yarder to seal the win for the Lions. Kerryon would rush for 158 yards.
WEEK 7: Recap
The win in Miami, would be the Lions last attempt to turn their season around, as they dropped the next 3 against Seattle at home and division rivals, Minnesota, Chicago on the road.
Despite the 28-14 loss, Detroit added 3 more players to the “Pride of Detroit”, Herman Moore, Roger Brown and Alex Karras in a special halftime ceremony against Seattle.
WEEK 8: Recap
Following the loss, another big blow would come to the Lions faithful, this time in the form of a trade. Detroit traded impending free agent, Golden Tate to the defending champions, Philadelphia Eagles.
The Lions couldn’t bounce back, getting manhandled by the Vikings 24-9.
WEEK 9: Recap
Week 10, was a case of too little too late for Detroit. Falling 26-7 at the half. Stafford’s 3 touchdowns to Kerryon Johnson (2) and Marvin Jones wasn’t enough to mount the comeback against Chicago.
WEEK 10: Recap
Prior to their match-up against the Carolina Panthers, Matt Prater and Sam Martin were in the giving spirit for the holidays, giving away 100 turkey dinners to those in need.
Week 11, was a grit and grind that Lions fans have been clamoring for all season. Kerryon Johnson had an early touchdown in the first quarter, holding the game to 7-all after the 1st.
Devon Kennard and Ziggy Ansah chipped in the defense with a sack each. Matt Prater added a 54-yard field goal to give the Lions their first lead of the half. Prater extended the lead with another field goal (32 yards) in the 3rd quarter, but Carolina would go back and forth with Detroit in the 4th.
The Panthers would tie the game up with Cam Newton connecting with Curtis Samuel for the 12-yard touchdown, 13-13. Graham Gano’s extra point attempt, no good. The tie would be short-lived as Matthew Stafford found Marvin Jones for the 19-yard touchdown giving the lead back to the Lions, 20-13.
Cam Newton and the Panthers made things interesting with a touchdown to DJ Moore for 8 yards, bringing the Panthers within a point to tie, 2 to win. Carolina opted for the 2-point conversion attempt. That’s all it would be is an ATTEMPT, as the Lions grinded out a much-needed win.
